A combination of strong winds and heavy rain is expected to strike Penarth and the surrounding area this evening and last through the night.

The Met Office has issued an 'Amber Wind Warning' and 'Yellow Rain Warning'. They say the extreme weather - Storm Bella - may lead to "disruption and flooding".

This comes just three days after much of Sully, Dinas Powys, Cogan and Llandough were severely flooded.

Low-lying houses were overwhelmed by up to a foot of water and many roads were blocked. The community rallied to protect the vulnerable and raise funds for repair work. One crowdfunding campaign raised over £7,000.

The Vale of Glamorgan say they have run out of sandbags after distributing 1,300 by 7PM on Christmas Eve.

They are organising skips for the collection of water damaged furniture and goods for 30 December have not issued any further advice today.

Some residents have reported being unable to get through to the Council's emergency phone numbers and email addresses.

"Can't even get hold of anyone," said one. "Emergency number from their website doesn't work. There's still no sign of help and I think tonight's rain will push the water even further and we'll flood."

Nub News has heard reports that some residents are taking pillow cases the the beach and filling them with sand.

RNLI Penarth have urged residents to exercise caution in line with Met Office advice, which can be found here.
