Following last night's flooding, a Gofundme page has been set up to raise money for those in Sully affected.

Torrential rain led to areas such as Penarth, Sully, Cogan, Dinas Powys, and Barry being flooded, with roads blocked and water entering houses.

Hannah Bevmoh Mohaffel, chair of the Sully Village Group set up the page with an initial target of £1000, but has now raised over £5000 to help people whose houses have flooded.

"I'm trying to establish today what people will need, what people need now, and then if we can get replacement Christmas presents" said Hannah.

"People are responding well; I'm amazed by it to be honest. It's good for the people affected to see.

"One woman I spoke to last night had water just up to the skirting board, but then another had four feet of water in her house.

"I heard one woman has just finished decorating her house, and it's now ruined.

"You feel a bit helpless or desperate in these situations," she said.

The areas affected in Sully so far are Conybeare Road, Winsford Road and Highbridge Close.

The community group has also helped to coordinate a rescue response, led by Ian Davis who has military experience.

"Last night, they had about 30 volunteers" said Hannah.

"We've got the double problem of Covid, because people shouldn't really be mixing, but they are allowed to in rescue circumstances.

"People need to be careful with their masks, as the Vale is not in good shape at the moment.

"We need sandbags for Boxing Day. It could all just happen again with water levels being so high," she said.

A yellow weather warning for wind is in place for Wales and England from Boxing Day, with rain forecast in Sully from 3am.
