An opportunity to design two pieces of artwork for local infastructure has beeen announced by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

The Council wishes to appoint an artist or 2D designer to produce two designs to be painted onto the Gladstone Bridge in Barry and Cogan Bridge leading away from the train station.

Both painting designs will be implemented by painting contractors since the bridges span railway lines. The painting contractors will be commissioned by the Council to a separate contract.

Funding for this project has been supplied by the Welsh Government Active Travel Fund, details of which can be found here.

"We would like to transform the visual impact of these two bridges, turning them into attractive landmarks that enhance the public realm," said a spokesperson for the Council.

"We are aiming to make the experience of travelling over them, particularly by bike or foot, more interesting and memorable.

"This is an opportunity to create a welcoming artwork that creates a sense of place for each location."

There is a research and design fee of £1,500 and a detailed design fee of £2,250 to include supervision of contractors.

To request a full brief contact [email protected]. The closing date is Monday 8 November.
