Newly planted trees at Wordsworth Park vandalised

By Ellyn Wright 13th Feb 2021

The newly planted trees at Wordsworth Park have been vandalised.

Two of the three new trees have had the tops sawn off.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council planted the trees less than two weeks ago as part of a scheme to improve biodiversity and help tackle the climate emergency.

The park was previously targeted in December when theives stole a decorative banner and four wooden panels from the raised bed in the community fruit garden just a week after the project began.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council tweeted that the damage costs approximately £1,500.

"We're very disappointed to share the news that four of the newly planted trees at Wordsworth park in Penarth have been destroyed," said the council.

"We have reported it to South Wales Police but if anyone has any information please contact us."
