John Bruno Total Training has long been working on the concept of online fitness. In the wake of the coronavirus, they have now launched their own virtual gym as well as a free mental health coaching service for Penarth.

The business has been struck by the problems associated with coronavirus and wants to find ways to keep themselves going as well as helping out the people of Penarth.

John Bruno spoke to Nub News. He said: ''We closed the studio down and obviously, like many local businesses, our income went down to zero.

''We have been training online for many years. In 1998, I started attempting it on a dial-up connection. Thankfully, technology caught up with the idea.

''We have been doing online personal training on and off for about 11 or 12 years.

''We were actually recognised in the Sunday Times style supplement for 'Skype up your life' in 2012 and have been doing that ever since.

''The Virtual Gym was created the weekend before last and it launched properly this week. It is only £15 for 12 months and we are giving five pounds of that to a food bank or another worthy charity during these difficult times. We want to help in whatever way we can.

''Live Seminar Streaming is something else we have looked into on Facebook which will involve an exciting Q and A with a celebrity chef. They will provide hacks on nutrition and how to stay healthy during the lockdown.

''We also want to provide some quick and easy exercises people can do from home. These will be a bit of fun. I've been thinking of exercises you can do with a kettle instead of a kettlebell. That will all be put onto our Facebook for free.

''The mental health side of things is a bit different. We put up a video to see if anyone would be interested in receiving some coaching and within an hour or so I had someone contact who had a relative in the hospital with Covid-19.

''I then Skyped them for half an hour and had a chat and went over some helpful ways of dealing with these kinds of things. Luckily, their relative is now out of the hospital and on the mend.

''I've spoken to a few other therapists in the area that I know and they want to help out too so we will be doing more of that as well. That service will be completely free.

''We've got lots of ideas and we are really adaptable to what the community wants. I am also looking at doing some meditation sessions, exercises for older people, virtual walks. There are definitely other strings to the bow.''
