A Penarth resident has been congratulated on her long service to a town store and the local community.

Sandra Jones has just collected a Career Celebration Award in honour of completing her 15th year as a Co-op colleague at the town's store.

Sandra, who works alongside her son Chris (who will receive the award later this year), says the occasion has given her cause to reflect on her time at the store.

"The Co-op has been so good to me over the years. I've had a few personal ups and downs and they've been there to support me.

"When my mother died they went above and beyond. All I really have to say is that I truly love my work. Let's hope I get to 20 years."

Her manager, Gary Stent, says the feeling is mutual.

"I have worked with Sandra for five years and just think she is such a great person to have on the team. She is always reliable and conducts her work in a very professional manner.

"Without fail, she steps up to the mark when required and her work is of the highest standard. Over her 15-year stint, she has built up good relationships with customers and reflects the Co-op's community-driven ideals in her work and attitude.

"Well done, Sandra."

The Co-op launched their "career celebration" scheme earlier this year to "celebrate colleagues' commitment and loyalty during their career at the Co-op from their first year with us until retirement."

As well as her certificate, Sandra received a green "15 years' service" badge and a £50 gift card, which she says she is saving for Christmas.
