Belle Vue Bowling Club members are working hard to get ready for new season - but they need rain!

Belle Vue Bowling Club battled through the hottest UK year on record in 2022 with no watering system to water their green after it was ripped out with the demolition of the Belle Vue Pavilion to make way for a community centre.

Preparation of the bowling green has been carried out by members for the forthcoming 2023 season.

They have cut, scarified and aerated the green in preparation for the five tonnes of top dressing and 20kg of grass seed that was spread over the prepared green.

However, with still only a single hose pipe to water the newly top dressed and seeded green, members are dependent on the rain to water in the top dressing and germinate the grass seed to prevent it drying out.

A statement from the club says: "With the watering system still not in place for the forthcoming season we will again struggle to water the green for the enjoyment of our members and visiting teams.

"Despite our present difficulties Belle Vue Bowling Club welcomes new members to join our very friendly and sociable membership. We welcome all ages and abilities to come and try out bowls."
