With Yma O Hyd and the Welsh National Anthem proudly being sung these past few weeks during Wales' World Cup matches, it couldn't be a better time to consider a bilingual education for your children.

Ysgol Pen y Garth on Redlands Road in Penarth is hosting an open morning on Thursday, 8 December between 9:15am – 11:30am and invites parents and guardians to come and have a look around, speak to some parents of current pupils, and ask any questions they might have about a bilingual education. During the morning you'll be able to see examples of pupils' work, hear some of the classes singing, and hear from members of the school council.

The school is open to all primary learners, regardless of age or level of Welsh. 60 per cent of its current pupils come from non-Welsh speaking households and all communications with parents and guardians is provided bilingually with teaching staff always available to help with any questions or queries.

Mum of two pupils at the school Clare Skivens said: "Neither my husband nor I can speak Welsh, but our sons love Ysgol Pen y Garth. Teachers make school life fun and interactive, and we have been impressed by how they can both converse in Welsh, and we love hearing about the range of work they do, and enjoy from maths and writing through to digital."  

Mrs Cule, Executive Headteacher said: "We look forward to welcoming you to the school and showing you the amazing things our pupils get up to from classroom activities, to music, sport and even our Urdd Eisteddfod participation. We appreciate some people can find Welsh education for their children a daunting prospect and concerns we often hear relate to not being able to help with homework, or a fear of being left behind those who do come from a Welsh-speaking background. With absolute certainty, I can confirm that children only benefit from a bilingual education, and I'm more than happy to chat with anyone with such concerns during the open day."
