A joint rescue took place last night to save a powerless yacht with two crew members and four dogs on board.

RNLI Penarth were paged shortly after midnight on Tuesday 15th October to assist with an ongoing rescue of a yacht which was taking on water and was without power.

Barry Dock lifeboat had the vessel under tow but needed some assistance to get the vessel into Cardiff Bay.

However, due to the drop-in tide, the vessel with two people and four dogs on board was towed to Barry dock.

Initially, the boat in trouble was about 4 miles west of Clevedon.

As it was taking on water lifeboats and a helicopter were sent.

Barry Dock was to bring the boat to Cardiff and we would take on the final tow into the barrage, but the tide dropped to an extent that going back to Barry was the only viable option.

The Atlantic lifeboat was recovered at 2:20am.

Portishead and Weston-super-Mare lifeboats were also involved earlier with the incident, as was coastguard helicopter 187 from St Athan and Penarth Coastguard.
