The annual 'Penarth in Bloom' Best Decorated Christmas Tree competition was awarded to Penarth Library at last weeks Late Night shop.

The winner's certificate and wreath were gifted by Town Mayor and competition Judge, Cllr Angela Thomas, as part of the Late-night shopping event.

The Penarth Late night shop which was organised by Shop Penarth and the Traders Group was a roaring success with many local people snapping up a pre-Christmas bargain at the event.

Melanie Weeks, Senior Librarian said ''We've really enjoyed taking part in the Best-Dressed Christmas Tree Competition this year, along with all the other traders and organisations in the town.

''Thanks, must go to Suki, Jan and the team for all their hard work and boundless creativity. Do pop in to see our beautiful tree before exploring the wide variety of shops in this part of Penarth.'

The competition which is run by Penarth Town Council as part of 'Penarth in Bloom' hopes to encourage the community to plant, grow and explore the town.

With a goal of helping to improve Wales' garden by the sea, the Christmas trees are an extension of the summer planters scheme.

The miniature spruce trees have helped to bring some green-fingered festivities to over 60 businesses and organisations in the town.

While some of this year's trees were a little more 'miniature' than 'spruce' the council are pleased to confirm that the trees will be replanted locally where they will grow taller year on year, making for a more sustainable Christmas tradition.
