The Welsh Government has announced that it will provide financial support to those affected by recent flooding.
In the wake of Storm Christoph battering much of North Wales this week, Welsh Minister for Environment Lesley Griffiths stated:
"These are truly unprecedented times. We will support people in these circumstances just as we did in the aftermath of storms Ciara and Dennis last year by working with local authorities to make support payments of between £500 and £1,000 available for each household flooded."
Jane Hutt, Member of the Senedd for the Vale of Glamorgan, today clarified that this support "will apply to the households devastated by floods in my constituency on 23rd December".
Many residents of Sully, Cogan, Llandough and Dinas Powys awoke on Christmas Eve to over a foot of silty water in their festive front rooms.
The community rallied to help the most affected and has since raised large sums for victims.
A JustGiving page set up by Sully residents has at the time of writing raised over £10,000 for 12 of the worst-hit families.
Responding to MS Hutt's announcement, Sully resident Craig James, whose mother's Conybeare Road property was overwhelmed by the flooding, says the support will make a huge difference.
"This is great news for the Sully Christmas flood victims," he said.
"My mother has been advised by the insurance company that some of her belongings and property won't be covered by the level of insurance she had (because she's a pensioner), so this extra money from the Welsh government will help her rebuild her home.
"She is hugely relieved that they have stepped up to help her."
More details of the grants are expected to be announced on later today.
