The PPE team from the Vale of Glamorgan Council have been working hard throughout the coronavirus pandemic to deliver essential items to key workers and yesterday they reached a major milestone.

They said: ''We've got an announcement. Yesterday, our PPE team delivered their one-millionth item.

''[Pictured above] they are delivering a thank you cake and the 1 millionth item to staff at Sycamore House in Barry.''

With many Council staff on the frontline of the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Emergency Planning team have been working hard to ensure they have all of the protection they need.

The items have been given out to Social Services staff, frontline workers in Environment and Housing, and key workers in many other teams across the Vale of Glamorgan.

The PPE is being procured from a number of outlets and it is very pleasing to see some local businesses adding their own equipment to the Council's stocks.

For example, we have received a donation of PPE from a local manufacturing firm, Cabot. The goggles, glasses, masks and overshoes received are being distributed to key frontline staff from the Civic offices today.

The Council is also helping to support local businesses who have converted their operations to the manufacture of PPE, such as the Hensol Castle Gin Distillery which has temporarily postponed its opening to support the production of antibacterial gel for the NHS and key workers.

Rob Thomas, Managing Director, said: "Protecting our frontline staff is our top priority as they risk their own health and well-being to continue to deliver our most vital services. I cannot thank them enough for their hard work and dedication.

"We are pleased to be able to work with, and support, local businesses during this difficult time, whilst prioritising the protection of our frontline staff."
