The Vale of Glamorgan Council is reminding residents that they are providing temporary accommodation for everyone in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

They said: ''Anyone concerned about an individual sleeping rough or begging should contact the Council directly or by downloading the StreetLink app, which sends our Housing Solutions Team an alert.

"Temporary accommodation is currently being offered to anyone without a roof over their head."

The Housing Solutions Team first submitted an Emergency Powers request on 27th March for permission to block book hotel accommodation to provide emergency/temporary accommodation.

An increase in homelessness / rough sleeping because of the coronavirus including:

  • Prison leavers, people fleeing domestic violence/abuse and family/relationship breakdowns.
  • The need to have alternative accommodation for people in shared accommodation if an outbreak of the virus occurs and we are unable to ensure residents can self-isolate in line with Public Health Wales guidance.

On the 4th of June, the Vale Council said: ''Over the last 3 weeks on average approximately 10 additional people have been placed in the hotel accommodation each week."

If you are concerned about someone over the age of 18 that you have seen sleeping rough in England or Wales, you can use this website to send an alert to StreetLink.

The details you provide are sent to the local authority or outreach service for the area in which you have seen the person, to help them find the individual and connect them to support.

It is important to note that if you think the person you are concerned about is under 18 please do not contact StreetLink but instead call the police.
