Tŷ Hafan Children's Hospice received a visit from intensive care consultant, Dr Matt Morgan, who donated copies of the children's book, Humanimal.

Matt was visiting on behalf of Humanimal Trust, the charity of which he Patron, founded in 2014 by orthopaedic veterinary surgeon, Professor Noel Fitzpatrick.

Dr Matt Morgan, said: "Humanimal Trust's recent Christmas campaign, Books for Christmas, saw supporters donating the cost of a book to enable us to distribute copies to children's hospitals and hospices across the UK, like Tŷ Hafan. During my visit here today, I've seen first-hand the incredible level of care and support the team gives to children with life-shortening conditions, and I sincerely hope these books will help to bring a smile to their faces."

Authored by Christopher Lloyd and illustrated by Mark Ruffle, Humanimal: Incredible Ways Animals Are Just Like Us! takes young readers aged seven to 12 on a journey of discovery and appreciation of all the ways animals are just like humans.

"Humanimal Trust recognises that by bridging the gap between human and veterinary medicine, treatments can be developed faster and more efficiently, and cutting-edge medical breakthroughs can benefit people and animals equally. This is called One Medicine and it's an approach that fascinates me so much that I wrote a book about it, based on my experience as an ICU doctor. What has become obvious to me today is that this vision of hope and a brighter future for those who need it most is something that both Humanimal Trust and Tŷ Hafan have in common", said Matt.

Humanimal Trust drives collaboration between vets, doctors and researchers so that all humans and animals benefit from sustainable and equal medical progress, but not at the expense of an animal's life. This is One Medicine.

Lynne Phelps, Head of Family Wellbeing and Outreach Services at Tŷ Hafan Children's Hospice, said: "When a child's life will be short, Tŷ Hafan will walk alongside that family every step of the way, through life, death and beyond. The gift of Humanimal will give much pleasure to the children and young people we care for, and help to create treasured memories. Thank you to everyone at Humanimal Trust who contributed to this thoughtful donation."

Humanimal, together with the sequel We Are All Animals, are available to buy from Humanimal Trust's website: www.humanimaltrust.org.uk
