Two confirmed dead in crash on A4050 - police appeal for witnesses

TWO women have died at the scene of a crash near Barry, police have confirmed.

A statement said two drivers collided in the incident along the A4050 in Barry on Saturday (2 November) afternoon.

Police said two men have also been taken to hospital, one believed to be in a critical condition. 

Sergeant Craig Wood, who is investigating the incident, says officers are in the early stages of trying to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

An appeal has been put out to the public for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information to help their investigations. They say they are particularly interested in the manner of driving of a grey Audi RS 4 prior to the crash. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter.

A statement from South Wales Police read: "We are at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision on the A4050, Barry and the road is currently closed in both directions from the junction of Port Road East and Barry Dock Link Road to Pugh's Garden Centre. The road is likely to remain closed until at least 2am tomorrow morning, Sunday, November 3. We are advising motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.

"We were called just after 1.40pm this afternoon, Saturday November 2, with a report of two drivers having collided on the A4050. Two women died at the scene. Two men have been taken to hospital, one of whom is believed to be in a critical condition."

Sergeant Wood added: "First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family of the two women who have died in this collision. 

"We are in the early stages of our investigation and are still trying to establish the full circumstances. I am appealing to anybody who was driving in the area between 1.30pm and 1.50pm and has any information that can assist this investigation to please get in touch with us.

"If you have dash-cam in your vehicles I would also ask you to contact us.

"We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who can give us extra detail on the manner of driving of a grey Audi RS 4 prior to the collision.

"I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding whilst we conduct inquiries at the scene."
