The Mystery of the Balancing Rocks on Penarth Beach

Local News by The Editor 5th May 2020

Over the weekend, a mysterious display of balancing rocks appeared on Penarth's beach and Nub News went down to investigate.

The impressive structures, which almost looked implausible to the human eye, were balanced across the shores.

Although the creators of these natural artworks are unknown, passersby could be seen adding to them or creating their own as they wandered along the coast.

They looked pretty dramatic with the backdrop of the sea and it seems like a lovely activity for residents to get involved with on their daily exercise.

Members of the public have also shared images of these rock sculptures online with many questioning the origins of the pieces.

Rock Balancing is considered to be an art form and, essentially, it involves placing some combination of rock or stone in arrangements which require patience and sensitivity to generate, and which appear to be physically impossible while actually being only highly improbable.

Adrian Gray, is a UK based artist known for using this technique to create his famous artworks across the country.

The mystery of how they all got there is an interesting one but regardless they looked pretty breathtaking and it's a great activity to join in with as you walk by.
