Take a look back into local history with Penarth Civic Society who are hosting an illustrated talk by Bruce Wallace about four members of his family in Penarth over the last 100 years: A soldier, a sailor, a salvationist and my mum marching.

His Grandfather Tom Wallace fought in WW1, was a Prisoner of War with 35 other Penarth men and was the watchman on the Passat and Pamir during their time in Penarth Dock.

Wallace's uncle Walter Mules sailed on a luxury schooner based at Penarth Yacht Club before WW1 and later worked for trawler fleet owner Joshua Neale at his house 'Skomer' in Marine Parade.

His great grandfather Tommy 'Dodd' Wallace was a well-known member of Penarth Salvation Army in the early years of the 20th century, during which time its base in Salop Street burned down.

And finally, his mother, Audrey Wallace (nee Macey) was in Albert Road school during WW2 and joined the Girls Nautical Training Corps based in the Scouts Hut on Stanwell Crescent in the late 1940s.

This event promises to be a colourful and interesting insight into the lives of ordinary but also extraordinary people who have lived in our town over several generations.

The talk will take place on January 23rd at St Augustine's Parish Hall. Members FOC Non-Members £2.00
