Tomorrow, both the mens and womens Barbarians sides are coming to Penarth RFC to conduct an open training session ahead of the teams double header against Wales men and women at the Principality Stadium on Saturday.

Both sides will be training between 10am - 12pm with the Women's team also running an afternoon session.

Both squads are packed with internationals.

The Men's squad includes Makazoli Mapimpi who scored in the World Cup Final for South Africa, along with French Man Mountain Mathieu Bastareud and Ireland legend Rory Best.

The women's squad includes players from no less than 10 countries and includes two world cup winners from New Zealand Steph Te Ohaere-Fox and Eloise Blackwell.

Warren Gatland is leading the men's team in what is to be his farewell to the Principality after 12 hugely successful years as Wales coach.

Whilst the women are coached by former England captain Jo Yapp.

There will be a significant crowd to watch as children from local primary and secondary schools will be in attendance for what should be a fantastic occasion.

The Barbarians club was inspired by William Percy Carpmael who appreciated the culture behind the rugby tour.

In 1890, the concept of the Barbarians was agreed upon over an oyster supper.

The idea took off, and the club's spiritual home became the Esplanade Hotel, Penarth, where the Barbarians always stayed on their Easter tours of Wales.

Penarth RFC also became the home club for the team.

Penarth's Club would take part annually in the Good Friday game against the Barbarians. The first game took place in 1901 and always encouraged large crowds in attendance.

The final Penarth v Barbarians game was played in 1986, by which time the Penarth club had slipped from its prominent position in Welsh rugby.

Their part in Penarth's history will always be of great importance to the local community and the RFC hope that residents can come down to support the teams.

The club house will be open for teas and coffee throughout the morning so if you can, make sure you pop down and glimpse a sight of the two teams.
