Bridgeman Road in Penarth was surrounded by police as they awaited the arrival of Prince Charles at Marie Curie Hospice.

He waved from his car to the public that were standing by on the roadside with a Welsh flag in tow.

Penarth Nub News spoke to a local family who were eagerly awaiting.

The grandmother of the group said:

"I'm very excited to be here for the Prince of Wales."

The mother said they had heard the news of his visit from Penarth Nub News' announcement today. She said: "We wanted to bring the kids down. We hope we will be able to see him."

The Prince will spend about 45 minutes from 2:30 visiting staff and patients in Marie Curie Hospice before departing for Pontypridd to visit flood victims.

A local police officer remembered another visit with Prince Charles in Wales and how he made an effort to come and speak to him despite being on his own. He recalls: "He was very nice to me, shook my hand and really made an effort."
