Sully Day Opportunities, near Penarth, part of Salutem Care and Education, proudly hosted its first-ever prom night for the amazing individuals it supports.

Drawing inspiration from mainstream school proms, this event provided a rite of passage celebration for those who had previously expressed a desire to partake in such a milestone.

The event was borne out of the sentiments of several young individuals at Sully, who felt envious watching their siblings attend proms. True to the spirit of inclusion, the Sully team decided it was high time these individuals enjoyed a night they rightfully deserved.

Held at the service in Sully, the glittering night saw attendance from approximately 40 individuals, along with carers and families. From the moment they arrived, attendees were treated to an authentic prom experience. Ladies received handmade corsages, while everyone had the chance to pose and be photographed against a prom backdrop they had crafted themselves. The air was filled with excitement as attendees dazzled in their prom dresses and tuxedos.

Guests enjoyed an array of delicious food available for purchase, and the thrill of a raffle added to the festive atmosphere. As the evening progressed, the floor came alive with a disco, allowing guests to groove to their favourite tunes. Beyond dancing, the event offered a wonderful platform for families and friends to reconnect, reminisce, and create new memories.

Emma Stewart, team leader at Sully Day Opportunities said: "This really was a night to remember for the individuals we support.

"Some had expressed their disappointment that they could not attend a prom night with their siblings and friends which is really sad, so we decided they should have their own event. Everyone got dressed up to the nines and thoroughly enjoyed being the centre of attention.

"It was fabulous and something we will definitely repeat!"

Danielle said: "It was amazing. I loved getting dressed up in my yellow dress and Kate cried because we all looked so beautiful"

Kelly said: "I loved it. My friends and family came and we danced and had so much fun. I love it here so much"

Sully Day Opportunities offer a wide range of social, educational and leisure activities to all individuals with learning disabilities, mental health and physical disabilities, supporting them to develop new skills, build confidence and meet new people.
