Penarth Storm Dennis Update: Weather Takes its Toll on Local Sports and Events

Storm Dennis is well and truly underway and with it a string of outdoor event and sporting cancellations around Penarth.

The Vale of Glamorgan council released a list of all of their owned pitches and all of those in Penarth will not be in use due to the bad weather and waterlogged pitches.

Pitches Update:

Cogan Leisure Centre – OFF

Cwrt Y Vil, Penarth (Old Pens) – OFF

Burnham Avenue, Sully – OFF

Sully Sports Centre – OFF

St Cyres – OFF

Penarth RFC - OFF

Local Sports that have been cancelled/ rescheduled:

  • Cogan Coronation vs. Barry Athletic at Home has been postponed

• Cowbridge Town vs. Penarth Town Away has been postponed.

  • Old Pens RFC - They announced yesterday evening that: ''Our scheduled 1st XV fixture v Wattstown RFC has sadly been postponed due to an already waterlogged pitch - with Storm Dennis still to come.''

• Penarth RFC announced: ''1st XV fixture against St Albans RFC has fallen foul off the weather, it's looking a bit moist.''

Local Events that have been cancelled/ rescheduled:

• The Bramble Scramble at Victoria Park - Volunteers helping to clear brambles and gardening debris will have to wait until the storm is passed to get their green thumbs in action (Saturday).

• The Countryside Service was due to be holding a bird box making session to celebrate National Nest Box Week in Cosmeston (Sunday. The Vale council announced on Twitter that it postponed.

  • Alexandra's Enchanted Garden - The exciting illumination event will be unable to open today due to weather conditions and health and safety measures. Ticket holders can have them exchanged online.
