Stanwell reports more COVID cases - School apologises for self-isolation confusion

Stanwell School has sent an email to parents confirming that two students (one in Year 7, one in Year 9) have tested positive for COVID-19.

All students in these year groups have been told to self-isolate for 14 days from the date of last contact with the infected pupils.

For Year 7 pupils, this means self-isolating until Thursday 5 November.

Year 9 pupils will have to self-isolate until Friday 6 November.

After a succession of confusing emails, all parents were sent the following clarification:

"Please accept our apologies for any confusion which has arisen as a result of the emails sent today on behalf of Mr Brown.

"Pupils in Year 7 should follow the instructions given in the email sent to that Year Group and will now need to self-isolate for 14 days until Thursday 5th November 2020...

"Pupils in Year 9 should follow the instructions given in the email sent to that Year Group and will now need to self-isolate for 14 days until Friday 6th November 2020...

"As the the year group were not due to attend school physically during this week due to the 'fire-break' lockdown put into place by the Welsh Government, pupils can, if still well, return to school on Monday 9th November 2020 as planned.

"It is pupils in all the other year groups who do not need to self-isolate as per the whole school email."

The "confusion" stems from the fact that Year 9 parents were erroneously sent the following contradictory email intended for all other year groups:

"Pupils in Year 7 and 9 will need to self-isolate for 14 days.

"All close contacts of the case have been identified and are in the process of receiving appropriate advice.

"Your child has not been identified as a close contact and therefore does not need to self-isolate and does not require testing for COVID-19."

Nub News has been unable to confirm whether Year 7 parents were also sent that email in error.

One Year 9 parent has told Nub News:

"Contradictory advice makes this very confusing. At least Year 9 are off during the isolation period but when this happens again parents need better guidance."
