Sommerins at Home is running a prize draw worth £69 for local foodies.

Simply by subscribing to the newsletter, entrants are in with a chance of winning a five-course takeaway taster menu for two.

Michelin-starred Welsh chef James Sommerins started the takeaway during lockdown after his award-winning Esplanade restaurant 'Sommerins' was forced to close due to the pandemic.

He and his wife Lou announced in July that, "For us as a family, the effect on our business has been devastating; accruing rent and bills have taken their toll and left the business in a financial position that we never could have expected nor dreamed would ever happen.

"Having spent 6 years proudly serving you, our loyal customers, we have had to make the unthinkable decision to close our beloved restaurant.

"This is absolutely heartbreaking for us – it was our life, our home!"

James tells Nub News that the competition aims to spread a little culinary joy during this difficult time.

"It's been such a bad start to the year that we thought we'd give people a little boost and something to look forward to.

"Everything's so doom and gloom that I just thought, 'we're all struggling, but if we can help someone have a good evening with some good food then it doesn't cost much for me so why not?'"

James also hopes the competition will "keep people in the loop" with developments concerning his new business, which he says has been a success.

"It's been really well-received. But it's literally just me, my wife and my daughter serving around 100 people a week.

"I've gone from running a high end restaurant to doing BBQ and takeaway food so it's been a tough but interesting year I suppose."

Entrants must be in the Barry, Dinas, Sully or Penarth areas for delivery, or if outside these areas collection from The Shed In Barry is available.

Entrants will not be counted after 4pm on the 21st January 2021
