James Sommerin's Esplanade Restaurant will not be returning to business Penarth Nub News has been told.

The Michelin star eatery will no longer operate from the iconic location after closing initially due to the restrictions put in place during the coronavirus pandemic.

Richard Hayward, who owns the building and is one of the directors of the Restaraunt James Sommerin company, told Penarth Nub News that the business would not be reopening in that location.

He explained that the business was no longer financially viable and that during the period of closure he made the decision that the restaurant could not return to his premises.

A new let has now been agreed and Mr Hayward said he was looking forward to announcing the arrival of a new experience for Penarth residents when everything had been formalised.

He also updated Nub News on the latest development in the buildings with the Crazy Cafe set to reopen under new management in the next couple of weeks.

Nub News has sought to contact Mr Sommerin but he was unavailable for comment.

Mr Sommerin will be opening his new premises, The Shed by James Sommerin, in the Good Sheds Development in Barry when that is complete.

He announced on Facebook on Monday that: ''The Gwalia Building, Hood Road built in the 1880s to repair and service locomotives. Soon to be our home, The Goodsheds is a new urban high street created by LoftCo."

He is also running a takeaway service in the Penarth area called Sommerins From Home.
