Yesterday evening two people were saved by lifeboat after being cut off from the tide near Penarth Lifeboat Station.

The Penarth RNLI said: "At 7.35pm this evening (Thurs 4th June) our smaller D class lifeboat was launched to help 2 people who had been cut off on the coast by the high tide.

"The 2 people were approximately 1/4 mile from the lifeboat station, and they were quickly located and brought back to safety. Both were safe and well and none the worse for their experience!

"At all times our crew observed our covid precautions to protect both the casualties and crew members. The D-class lifeboat was returned to station at approx 8.30, where as a precaution full deep cleaning and decontamination of lifeboat and crew clothing was carried out.

"Please remember that the Bristol Channel does have a very large tidal range, and at the moment we have spring tides, peaking on Saturday. The high tides can catch out the unwary."
