RNLI Penarth volunteer crew members were tasked with two callouts on Saturday afternoon (August 13).

Two people were helped from a broken-down boat a short distance from Penarth beach and the crew also responded to two others in a kayak travelling from Flat Holm Island.

But the pair managed to return to shore without any assistance.

A spokesperson for RNLI Penarth said in a post on Facebook: "Penarth's crew were paged at 16:40 yesterday (August 13) and tasked to assist a broken-down boat with two people on board just off Penarth beach. Our D-class lifeboat launched, and the crew set up a tow to bring the boat safely into Cardiff Bay.

"Our lifeboat was then retasked to reports of concerns for two people in a kayak on their way back from Flat Holm. The kayakers made it back to shore without assistance, and the lifeboat returned to the station.

"We would always advise people to inform the Coastguard with details of their trip and carry a means of calling for help in case they find themselves in difficulty."
