RNLI Penarth crew members responded to a false alarm callout yesterday (August 10) after a report of paddleboarders drifting into the Bristol Channel.

But the paddleboarders managed to return to shore before any action was taken.

A statement posted on the RNLI Penarth Lifeboat Station Facebook page said: "Our crew were paged at 17:45 today (August 10) with reports of paddleboarders drifting out into the channel from Penarth beach.

"On arriving at the station our volunteers found that the paddleboarders had managed to return to shore themselves and the crew were stood down.

"This callout turned out to be a false alarm with good intent, but it's always best to raise the alarm if you think someone is in trouble the water.

"If you see anyone in difficulty, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
