RNLI Penarth is celebrating the community and its generous supporters after a series of successful fundraising events have raised money to support its lifesaving volunteers.

Recent events include an RNLI fish supper and a hog roast fundraiser held by local restaurant Pickford's Galley and Bar.

Attendees enjoyed food, raffles and entertainment, raising more than £1,300 for RNLI Penarth. Restaurant owner Huw Pickford is a longstanding member of the lifeboat crew, regularly making his way from the restaurant to drive the tractors that launch Penarth's lifeboats.

Other events organised by Penarth's Fundraising Committee include the latest of its popular coffee mornings at Penarth Yacht Club, which along with the coffee morning held in April jointly raised over £1,400. A Mid Summer Lunch, also held at Penarth Yacht Club, raised £655. During the summer school holidays the annual Yellow Welly Treasure Hunt saw dozens of local businesses display a numbered yellow welly in their windows, creating a treasure trail for local children to discover and raising £348.

An Open Garden hosted by a supporter gave people the opportunity to visit a beautiful local garden while helping to raise over £250 for the lifeboat station. The most recent Beaujolais Day event in November raised over £1000.

The year will finish with the RNLI Penarth Carol Service at St Augustine's Church on Wednesday 14 December, with guests welcomed from 6.30pm and the service beginning at 7.00pm. All are welcome to attend, and following the service there will be complimentary refreshments and mince pies.

Sara Siddall, Secretary of RNLI Penarth Fundraising Committee, said: "Thank you to everyone in the community who has helped make our fundraising such a success, helping to support our local lifeboat volunteers. From local businesses and individuals hosting collection boxes and contributing cakes and raffle prizes, to everyone who attended a fundraising event, everyone who has taken part has contributed to saving lives at sea."
