Nub News gives you the chance to have your say, as community only works when people take part in it.

This evening, a message from Richard Parry, Chair of the newly-formed group 'Friends of the Kymin'.

Today we announce the launch of 'Friends of the Kymin' - a local community action group with a mission to preserve public access and enjoyment of Penarth's Kymin, ensuring it remains a beautiful and fantastic place with opportunities and enjoyment for all.

The Kymin is a house and two hectares of mature parkland overlooking the Bristol Channel and the town's seafront.

The park and house are owned by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, which now seeks bidders for a 99-year lease of the house and some of the land.

This could mean stopping full public access to the Kymin, which generations of town residents and visitors have enjoyed and valued.

The Friends of the Kymin will encourage the ongoing public enjoyment of the full park and gardens and champion the protection of the peaceful character so the diverse wildlife of the area is protected.

The Friends will support action that sees the house used for the benefit of the town and visitors, especially proposals that maintain the Kymin house and grounds as a community asset, open to all.

It is lovely that local people have come together to actively support continued public access to all of the park and gardens.

The site was acquired for public enjoyment over seventy years ago, and there is no good reason why the town of Penarth and its visitors can't continue to enjoy the lawns, sea views, gardens and woodland.

The Friends support all constructive proposals that see a sustainable future for the house and allow full public access and use of the park.

We'll be taking an active role in encouraging all interested parties to come up with a fabulous solution for the town and its visitors.

The Friends is an invitation to people of the town to join this friendly community group and do our best to support and preserve public access to this delightful coastal heritage and place of refreshment and beauty.

The group invites everyone who loves the Kymin and wants to protect it for future generations to join the Friends of the Kymin. Membership is free and all are welcome.

By joining, people can share their views and ideas on the future of the house, park and gardens and help to protect one of the town's important natural habitats.

The Friends of the Kymin will be sending out newsletters and regular updates on the progress and activities, and hope to share opportunities for volunteering in the park.

The Friends of the Kymin have created a website and an Instagram account with space for people to share what they enjoy and value about the Kymin.

On the Friends website people can post photos taken in the Kymin – from picnics to parties, hide-and-seek to bat-and-ball on the bowling courts, French classes to weddings. The Kymin has been home to them all in recent years.

For more information, to post comments or pictures, and to join the Friends of the Kymin, visit the website HERE.
