Residents in Penarth have been invited to a meeting hosted by the town's Civic Society next week to help shape the future of how history is recorded in the area.

Since announcing its Heritage Project at the end of last year the society has received support for the project from the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

Members have been working to establish how the project should look and will be letting everyone in the community know what its plans are. However, the purpose of next week's meeting is to find out what the community thinks about the project.

The society will advise on a series of Information Boards, Blue Plaques and QR codes around the town that it hopes to erect to inform residents and visitors alike about the history of the town and the notable people who have lived there or influenced it.

A spokesperson said: "We plan to feature 'ordinary' people such as dockers, coal trimmers, nurses and midwives as well as the great and the good.

"It is important to say that nothing has been decided and we want to hear from everyone, whether with positive or negative comments so we can make the whole project something that the whole town can be proud of. You may even want to suggest people to be included as worthy of a blue plaque!"

There is no charge to enter the meeting which will take place at All Saints Church Lesser Hall, Victoria Square, on Wednesday, 26 October, starting at 7pm. However, any donations to help the society in its work would be gratefully received.
