More than 120 pupils from Albert Road and Cogan primary schools took part in a nature design workshop with local artist, David Mackie. The designs were then finalised with input from local residents.

The bespoke sculpture identifies the diverse wildlife that both lives in and visits the space. The illustrations include native animals such as ants, butterflies, and birds, as well as mythical creatures such as elves. The project provides seating, as well as features to discover and discuss.

 The bench is made of steel and hardwood, both robust materials which will require minimal maintenance. The designs have been etched into the hardwood, with painted infill for definition.

Visitors can find the piece adjacent to the path at the northern end of The Dingle.

The project was funded by Penarth Heights S106 monies. S106 funding comes from developers and goes toward the cost of providing community and social infrastructure following a new development

Cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, Cllr Mark Wilson said: "We're pleased to see this fantastic piece finally come to fruition, having been delayed due to Covid. The project is the result of creativity and collaboration from some of our youngest community members

"It will provide the community with a place to sit and enjoy nature and to connect with their surroundings. It also highlights the importance of initiatives like Project Zero in protecting these spaces so that they can continue to be enjoyed for years to come."
