Westbourne School in Penarth is the only school in Wales to be nominated for this year's TES Schools Awards 2022.

The private school has been shortlisted as a finalist in the 'Best Use of Technology' category, celebrating its tech-savvy approach to learning and particularly for its digital support for students throughout the national lockdown.

During the pandemic, Westbourne School launched an online platform to support all students when learning from home, and the school claims to be one of the first in Wales to use artificial intelligence (AI) to help students with their education.

A "leading-edge" tech partnership allowed the school to create mini-lessons on the online platform that students continue to use to complement what they learn in classes.

Westbourne School has also developed a digital careers and destinations platform to help students to apply for the best university and professional development opportunities.

Dr Gerard Griffiths, principal of Westbourne School, said: "Westbourne is proud to be at the forefront of technological innovation. Over the past few years, we have revolutionised the way that our students learn, empowering them to think bigger.

"State-of-the-art technology along with exciting, hands-on discovery opportunities and dedicated teaching staff give our students the tools they need to truly excel.

"To be the only school in Wales to be shortlisted in this year's TES Awards is a phenomenal achievement for the school and gives our teachers the confidence to continue to shape the UK education landscape for future generations."

Students also have access to Revoola, a health and wellbeing app, which is programmed to their individual needs.

The annual awards, which will be held on June 17 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, showcase and celebrate the best schools and teachers across the UK.

All independent and state schools in the UK are welcome to compete in a range of categories, including 'Headteacher of the Year', 'Primary School of the Year', and 'Teaching Assistant of the Year'.
