A Children's Art Workshop which originating from The Makerspace facility at Penarth Library has been selected for an international exhibition.

The workshop led to a book being written by Sue Trusler, called The Art Family. The characters will be showcased in Times Square, on the 22nd of June, as part of a digital exhibition by Artist Talk Magazine.

The Art Family were created to encourage younger family members to enjoy art and as a fun way for children to learn different types of mark making; a term used to describe the different lines, dots, marks and patterns, that we create in an artwork.

The chosen artwork shows the six gender neutral characters, each representing different types of mark making in various colours and poses.

Sue said: "I am delighted that we have been chosen to display this artwork in NYC.

"This will hopefully put Penarth on the map and highlights the important and engaging work we do supporting our community.
"The Magazine is producing a book of the exhibition, which will include The Art Family and pictures of the actual display. We are very excited to share this once it has been published."

Sue is unable to travel to NYC, but the exhibition will hopefully be available to view on a live feed.

Cllr Rhiannon Birch said: "This is wonderful news, and we would like to formerly congratulate everyone involved in the chosen artwork.

"Penarth Library's Makerspace facilities provides access to information and encourages the development of creativity, and wellbeing and this project is testament to this."

Future children's art workshop will be held at Dinas Powys Library during the Summer Holidays, dates, and sign-up details to be confirmed shortly.
