The river through Dinas Powys is to be substantially maintained in the autumn.

This was reported by Tim Marshall a representative of Natural Resources Wales to the community council meeting.

The total budget for river works is around £350,000 which includes the proposed maintenance. Community councillors were told that this is likely to be party of an overall plan. This include potentially blocking up drains to the north of the community to slow down water flows, storage ponds and use of flood plains.

A major initiative could be the creation of 'leaky dams' which means that storm water flows are slowed down.

Cllr Chris Franks said: "This is great news. The community council has worked with residents and the NRW to improve the level of flood protection. We await the start of this work".

Councillor Carolyn Mirza-Davies chaired the meeting.
