A local resident, Nick Simmons, has taken on distributing COVID-19 Whatsapp leaflets to the whole of the Lavernock Road area and further afield.

The notes detail a Whatsapp group that he has set up with his details and how you can access the support.

It states: ''If you would like to be added to the group please message me your name and number to 07714466896. Thanks from Nick Simmons.''

He said: ''I've been posting door to door with it - every house spanning Lavernock Road from Cefn Mably to the last couple of cottages before Sully.''

''If you or someone you know of lives on Lavernock Road, please feel free to private message me their mobile number so they can be added.

''We can keep each other informed, respond to requests from those who are vulnerable and keep in the loop.''

The Whatsapp group idea was inspired by a Tweet from Nick Doody who started a similar initiative in his town.

Nick said: ''I was inspired by the idea, I'd been thinking of reaching out to my neighbours on Lavernock Road to start a WhatsApp group so anyone in need can reach out and also be kept informed instantly.

''I'm thinking particularly of the elderly here who are vulnerable and may be offline and/or not in reach of a smartphone or social media.

''I distribute notes to each door with my phone number on it. People can then message me back with their number and I can add them to a group. This could be something many roads in Penarth could facilitate, let's get the community spirit going.''

He has posted hundreds of these leaflets to residents offering his help and support during these difficult times.

Nick has also been helping out with the Sully Village Hub group who have been ensuring that everyone in their area receives leaflets from a pool of volunteers.
