A yellow weather warning has been issued for Penarth and surrounding areas.

Although a snow blanket is unlikely to cover the town, wintry showers and icy stretches are likely to bring some travel disruption.

The Vale Council announced that: ''Showers are forecast for this evening with some of these likely to be wintry with hail and sleet, with wet snow in places. Preventative treatment will be taken on all routes.''

What to expect:

• Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

• Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

• Some roads and railways may be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

Wintry showers are expected to continue through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning leaving surfaces wet and leading to icy stretches developing on untreated surfaces.

These showers will fall as a mixture of rain, hail and snow at times, the snow mostly over higher ground.
