The Vale Foodbank opened in September 2011, with one Foodbank Centre in Barry. Since then they have expanded throughout the Vale of Glamorgan and there are now six centres available to distribute emergency food parcels into the community. Vale Foodbank is a project founded by local churches, working together towards stopping hunger in the local area. The Foodbank relies on donations of food from individuals, churches, schools and other organisations. For those in need of food supply from a Foodbank things have changed slightly today due to the coronavirus outbreak. In a statement on Facebook today, they said: ''From next week all our centres will be temporarily closed & we'll be running a delivery service. ''If you're in a financial crisis you'll still need to get help from an agency and ask them for a foodbank voucher. Tell them if you've got any allergies, prefer tea or coffee & have any pets. They'll make an electronic referral to us and we'll deliver your food parcel. Here's how it will work: - Referred Monday or Tuesday: parcel delivered Wednesday- Referred Wednesday or Thursday: parcel delivered Friday
- Referred Friday: parcel delivered Monday ''Parcels will be delivered from 11 am - 4 pm. You must make sure you're in as we can't come back a second time. ''The driver will put the food on the doorstep, knock, walk 2 metres away and wait for you to answer the door and pick up the food. If there's no answer we'll take the food away. ''Thanks to everyone who's offered to drive for us - we now have a team in place and will post on Facebook if we need more help. Thanks, everyone for your support.'' You can find out more from the Vale Foodbank Website including monetary donations and how to access support.
