The new Town Mayor of Penarth, Cllr. Mark Wilson raised the Armed Forces Day Flag at West House today in recognition of the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.

In his first official event, and accompanied by his consort and Leader of Penarth Town Council, Cllr. Rhiannon Birch, the Mayor paid tribute to currently serving troops, Service families, veterans and cadets.

Armed Forces Day takes place annually on the last Saturday of every June, with this year's celebration occurring on Saturday 27 June.

The Armed Forces Day flag is being raised on buildings and landmarks across the UK.

Though the official national event has been cancelled due to Covid-19, organisers are encouraging the public to get involved on Armed Forces Day Facebook and Armed Forces Day Twitter pages. Penarth's residents can find further information as well as #SaluteOurForces material from here.
