Street Food Hut in Penarth is part of the upgrade being completed by the family business, previously known as the Celtic Lounge, at the end of Windsor Arcade and will open tomorrow with an upgraded shop and menu.

The renovation has been completed as part of an adaptation to these challenging and difficult times and will allow the business to function in the new normal.

The Street Food Hut is run by husband and wife team Tony and Anna along with their daughter Lauren.

They also own the Pantry, which is also located in the arcade, only a few doors down from the hut.

Their Grab and Go feature, served from their window kiosk, is a major change for the business with lots of food and drinks available to takeaway or enjoy safely in their outside dining area.

They also have seating which will be available outside the store front inside the arcade for rainy days.

Hanging menus adorn the ceiling inside which helps to avoid any contamination from menus and the help-yourself salad bar that stood before will now be handled by staff members instead.

The idea is that customers can have a safe and friendly experience in a local environment without suffering the loss of the atmosphere.

We spoke to Tony about the revamp and what they were hoping to achieve with the changes.

He said: ''It's all about adapting now and welcoming back customers in a safe way. We have touchless menus, socially distanced seating, a larger outdoor dining area and our Grab and Go options from the kiosk.

"The council have allowed us to extend onto the pavement and we want it to feel like a real hub. Our ethos is that we have space for people to enjoy whatever they've come for. They can visit as a family, for an alcoholic drink or just a cup of coffee. Whatever they want.

"The council have been great at fast-tracking our applications and helping us make these changes."

A new alcohol licence has also been applied for so that the business will be able to serve alcohol at later times over the weekend and as a takeaway option.

Tony explained: ''We are going to dip our toes into the later night drinks on Fridays and Saturday's. My wife makes all the different botanical gin cocktails but we will also have the more typical range of wine and beers too."

Environmentally speaking the business wants to do as much as it can while still remaining safe for customers. They have biodegradable cups and crockery which can be quickly disposed of but are also as environmental as possible.

The team have also made sure they have received their Covid-19 safety certificates.

The hut will be dog-friendly outside with the potential of furry friends being allowed inside if the coronavirus restrictions allow for this.

Music plays inside and they hope they will also be able to set this up for outside as well for, as Tony puts it, ''a Gipsy Kings, sunny holiday vibe."

Opening times will be from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm apart from Friday's and Saturday's where they hope to open till 11:00 pm.
