Penarth RNLI is asking residents to take more caution when crossing between Sully Island and the shore.

The team were requested to launch this afternoon to assist 3 people reportedly struggling to make their way back from Sully Island.

The team said: ''we received a launch request this afternoon to assist 3 people thought to be in difficulty as they made their way back through the tide at Sully Island.

''Before crews were paged the 3 made it safely back to shore and the launch request cancelled.

''We urge people to take heed of the signs which show the cut off times.''

There are RNLI signs at the beach indicating when it is safe to cross the causeway between Lavernock Point and Sully Island.

It takes approximately 40 minutes to cross to the island and back.
