Penarth RNLI seeking volunteers

RNLI Penarth is recruiting for two new Deputy Launching Authority volunteers to join the lifesaving team.

The role of Deputy Launching Authority is central to operations within all RNLI lifeboat stations.

The volunteers are responsible for initiating the launch of the lifeboat when requested by the Coastguard.

Once the decision to launch is made, crew pagers are activated and both lifeboat crew and shore crew immediately travel to the station to attend the callout.

Volunteering with the RNLI is a chance to learn new skills and give back to the community. Volunteers are supported at all times by the close team of existing volunteers at the station and by the RNLI.

RNLI Penarth's lifeboats launched 41 times in 2021 to rescue 54 people and save four lives.

Jason Dunlop, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Penarth Lifeboat Station, said:  "RNLI Penarth couldn't carry out our lifesaving work without the effort and dedication of our volunteers.

"Volunteering for the RNLI is a rewarding experience, a chance to develop new skills and a good way to meet new friends and become part of a brilliant team."
