Penarth RNLI has closed its doors to doors to visitors until the coronavirus pandemic has cleared and will be unable to fundraise in person.

The Penarth RNLI updated their supporters of the issues on Facebook.

They said: ''We regret to announce that the RNLI has taken the difficult decision to shut down all of its retail shops, visitor centres and face to face fundraising efforts until the current pandemic has cleared.

''This will obviously have a significant impact on the income of the RNLI, and we would ask that you continue to donate, support and purchase where possible via the RNLI website.

''Our volunteer crews will continue to operate as normal, responding to their pagers and saving lives at sea, as they have done since 1824.''

The RNLI said: ''The welfare of our volunteers, supporters and staff along with our ability to maintain our world-class lifesaving service is our priority.

'Our lifeboats will continue to launch to those in peril at sea.'
