Volunteers raising money for ex-service personnel and their families through the annual Poppy Appeal have been angered after being told to move their caravan from its historic position in Penarth.

They say Vale of Glamorgan Council have said it will no longer be possible to site the caravan outside the St Fagan pub on Glebe Street.

A statement from one of the volunteers, Kay Brinkworth, says: "We've been told to move the poppy caravan. All my life, I've known the poppy caravan be outside the St Fagans pub in Penarth every year during the two weeks leading up to Remembrance Sunday - it is so iconic.

"that there is even a model of it with all the other iconic buildings above the entrance to Dingle Park.

"This year, we have been told by the council to move it. Firstly they said that delivery drivers complained! They were all very happy yesterday! Now they have changed their mind - they say the parking enforcement officers are finding it too hard to do their job

"They want us to move it outside Betfred. We will be blocking part of the pavement (its nice and wide where we are) and we will be blocking the view to the zebra crossing!

"C'mon Penarth … how can we save this site for our iconic caravan. We are tucked right out of the way where we are."
