Two Penarth venues will be hosting a schedule of plays and outdoor theatre productions throughout the summer months.

Both Penarth Pier Pavilion and the Kymin Gardens will be the stage for upcoming performances, the first being An Act of Piracy at the Pavilion on Wednesday, May 25.

An Act of Piracy, created by award-winning performer Richard Parry and accompanied by pianist Laurie Rich, uses British sea songs and shanties to tell the story of a young man being kidnapped.

The show forms part of a season of monthly café concerts following a recent sold-out concert from Kiki Dee and Carmelo Luggeri.

In addition, three upcoming plays are being held at the Kymin Gardens. Illyria, an outdoor theatre company, will be performing a theatre production of Peter Pan on June 16, The Pirates of Penzance on August 25, and A Midsummer Night's Dream on September 2.

Karen Davies, the Penarth Pier Pavilion manager, said: "It is wonderful to see both Penarth Pier Pavilion and the Kymin Gardens hosting an array of events throughout the summer.

"These spaces are very important icons in Penarth and the Vale of Glamorgan Council welcomes the opportunity to help ensure they remain used by both the community and visitors alike."
