Patrick Loveless, 63, shook his head as he was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court for abusing two girls, one of whom was under 13 years of age.

The court heard the girls were left "shocked and disgusted" after "arrogant" Loveless touched them inappropriately.

In a personal statement read to the court by prosecutor Claire Wilks and heard by a Wales Online reporter, one of the girls said she still suffers nightmares and endured bullying as a result of Loveless' actions.

"I was shocked, uncomfortable and disgusted by what happened to me but as time went on I had to accept it.

"I confided in a friend which led to her telling other friends in school which resulted in bullying and I had to move schools."

While sentencing Loveless, Judge Michael Fitton QC said: "It's your responsibility and standing shaking your head [...] does nothing for you.

"The conduct exhibited by you has brought shame on you that will not pass."

Loveless, who lived on St David's Crescent, was sentenced to eight years and six months in jail before facing a parole board.

His victims will forever remain anonymous.
