Penarth amateur dramatic group PODS are thrilled to have been nominated for no less than 28 awards in this year's Glammies and NODA Awards.

The Glammies are hosted each year by the Glamorgan Drama League and they recognise excellence in amateur drama and musical productions in South Wales. PODS has received 19 Glammies nominations this year including:

• Two Best Female Performance, three Best Male Performance and three Best Supporting Performance for their production of the Agatha Christie's courtroom drama "Witness for the Prosecution".

• Two Best Female Performance, Best Male Performance and three Best Supporting Performance for Frank Vickery's comedy "Trivial Pursuits".

• Best Female Musical Performance, Best Male Musical Performance and three Best Supporting Musical Performance for their production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd.

The NODA Awards are organised by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association which is nationwide charity for amateur theatre societies. PODS has received nine NODA nominations including:

In the Musical Theatre section - Best Individual Performance, two Best Supporting Performance, Best Production, Best Technical and Stage Management for Sweeney Todd together with Best Pantomime for Aladdin.

In the Drama section - Best Individual Performance and Best Supporting Performance for Witness for the Prosecution.

PODS Chairman Mary Gardner said "We're delighted to have been nominated for so many awards. Our casts and crews work so hard - all in their spare time - to put on our productions and it's wonderful to have such lovely recognition for all their efforts. Good luck to all of our members who have been nominated and to our friends from other amateur societies who have also been nominated."

PODS next production is "Goodnight Mister Tom" from the book of the same name by Michelle Magorian.

It follows the story of wartime evacuee William Beech who is sent to the countryside to live with the curmudgeonly Tom Oakley.

Unexpected friendships develop in what is an incredibly moving drama. Goodnight Mister Tom is on at the Paget Rooms from 18th to 20th March and tickets are available by clicking the red button below or by calling 029 2071 2260.
