Penarth MP Stephen Doughty has paid tribute to Sir David Amess, the MP who was killed on Friday in his constituency.
The Conservative MP was meeting with constituents in Southend West, when the attack happened on 15 October.
Mr Doughty said he was "absolutely devastated" by his colleague's death, describing his as "an absolute gentleman".
"He well loved on all sides of the House. A true champion for his constituency - everyone knew something about Southend as a result and of his absolute passion for where he represented and the community he loved," said the Penarth MP.
"These are dark days for our public life, so tragically again. I like many others have deep concerns about the threats many of us have and continue to experience, and I must thank South Wales Police and all others who have assisted me with some very difficult situations in the past.
"But my foremost thoughts and prayers today are with David's family, friends, staff, colleagues and constituents. Rest in peace a true servant of the people."
MPs will shortly take part in a two-minute's silence in the House of Commons, followed by tributes and a service at St Margaret's Church, next to Parliament.
Over the weekend, tributes to Sir David Amess have poured in with many praising his character and committment to causes.
