Penarth RNLI lifeboat's all-volunteer crew was placed on alert last night to a call-out.

At 8:53pm Milford Haven Coastguard, which coordinates all rescue operations in the Bristol Channel area, placed the Penarth lifeboat crew on alert.

But before the lifeboat was launched, the coastguard operations centre notified the station that other search and rescue resources had been deployed to an incident – the nature of which has not yet been disclosed.

Penarth lifeboat and crew were quickly stood down before launching.
