Penarth Library recognised by Libraries Wales after extensive restoration work
Libraries Wales has made Penarth Library its 'Library Focus of the Month' after the three-storey building underwent a major restoration project.
Penarth Library reopened its doors to the public in May 2021 after the work was completed, which was jointly funded by Welsh Government and the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
New furniture, shelving, carpets, and an enquiry desk are just some of the new additions to the library, as well as LED lighting installed throughout the building.
Council funds also helped with the restoration, including the restoration of glass panels in a glass-stained window, uncovering a wall of Edwardian tiles, and repositioning and cleaning a bronze bust.
Rhodri Matthews, 51, senior librarian at Penarth Library, told Nub News: "We were delighted to find out that Penarth Library is 'Library Focus of the Month,'" said Rhodri. "The library has been able to restore and enhance its traditional features and access has been improved.
"It's always nice to be recognised by the Welsh library community for the work that has been undertaken with the support of Welsh Government and Vale of Glamorgan Council. It's also great for the dedicated library staff to be recognised for all their hard work in getting the library ready in time and maintaining a high quality of service."
Users of the library can now gain access during out of staff hours with the help of a new security and CCTV system.
