A Penarth resident has opened an events company that promotes discussions about mental health and donates experiences to those that would not usually have access.
Simon Clarke, 36, founder and director of Speakeasy Club, will organise corporate events from sporting experiences to wine tasting and reading retreats and welcoming all guests to speak openly about mental health and champion each other.
He set up the business as a way of providing further support after a difficult time during the pandemic. "I love putting on events for companies and groups, but I've come to realise that behind the smiles and pleasantries, people can still be having a rough time," said Simon.
From first-hand experience of living with depression and diagnosed with the condition in early 2021, Simon knows how difficult it is to seek help and encourages open conversations about mental health to break any stigma.
"While regularly crying for no reason, constantly feeling tired with a complete lack of focus, I knew I had to talk to someone, and I want my events to provide those moments for attendees, while being fun at the same time," said Simon.
For every event booked, Speakeasy will donate an experience to a young person needing a boost via one of the registered charities the company has started working with, including The Prince's Trust in Wales, Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme, and Mind.
Speakeasy Club's website was launched yesterday, and a physical launch will take place on March 2 at Barr 44 on Windsor Road.
